Pacy & Wheatley are delighted to have completed a care home refurbishment at Meadowbeck in York. The project involved extensive refurbishment and alterations including new plumbing and electrical works and high-quality internal finishes. The end product was completed with a fully refurbished entrance, dining facilities, Hair salon, bathrooms, staff offices and 5 bedrooms. The works are a part of our clients ‘WOW’ refurbishment to enhance the appearance of a large number of homes throughout the company.

The Challenge
Throughout the project, the home remained open for residents to live in, so consideration had to be given to ensure residents, staff & visitors are considered with the aim of zero disruption to the service. As the works were also in a built up residential area, consideration had to be given throughout the works with staggered deliveries. Phasing the works to ensure that the home has adequate facilities within each area and floor to avoid any loss of service to the residents.
The Solution
In order to allow the works to progress with no disruption to the residents, we ensured that the work areas were fully segregated from the occupied residential areas of the home. Throughout the refurbishment works we put in place a policy of daily communication with the home and ward managers. This allowed them to communicate on a daily basis the planned works to all residents, staff and visitors. We also worked closely with the home management team to ensure sufficient time and notice was given prior to commencing any noisy works. The works were phased following close co-ordination with the home and estates team to ensure that the facilities were considered and the day space and sanitary facilities were maintained.
Key Achievements
Significant improvements to the day spaces, reception & sanitary facilities for the home giving a fresh, quality appearance in line with the WOW specifications and to the high-quality finish expected. We worked closely with the client during revised scoping meetings, as the works progressed to ensure that the homes and clients wish list was met.
