Project Description
Pacy and Wheatley Construction completed a Design and Build project in Oxfordshire which comprised of the refurbishment of the former Crown Nursing Home to form a 9 bed ABI unit including day/dining facilities, communal spaces, a new commercial kitchen and other functional staff & office spaces. Works included external remodelling to provide new hard and soft landscaping to the courtyard area and full redecoration to the existing building render.
The Challenge
Works are in a conservation area, so consideration to the external finishes and close communication with the planning authority is essential.
The building is extremely tight with limited space available making the design, in order to satisfy the client’s requirements in terms of room sizes, functional rooms and communal and day areas challenging.
The building is situated very close to both a private house at one side and a small commercial unit at the other, whilst the front façade site onto the main road.
The Solution
Ensuring a good early relationship was formed between the design team and the planning department meant the project completed to the satisfaction of both the client and conservation officer.
With some innovative architectural thinking the end result has met all the client’s wishes and provided the facilities set out in the initial, tender employer’s requirements.
Forming close relationships at an early stage ensured that the project completed with little to no disruption for any of the neighbouring properties.
