Project Description
Pacy & Wheatley Construction were appointed for a Healthcare refurbishment in York, for our repeat client Barchester Healthcare, as part of our successful conduction of their framework roll out. The nature of the project involved an extensive restoration of the 95-bed Care Home. The renovation is to included modifications to the existing greeting spaces, selected bedrooms/bathrooms and the kitchen/dining areas. Due to the positive impact the Phase 1 works had on the home, Pacy & Wheatley were instructed to extend the renovation into the Dementia Ward and Assisted Living Apartments. The end result of the Home’s interior will have new flooring covers, fresh decorative aspects, ceramic tiling to all bathrooms, and plumbing and electrical furnishings throughout, in accordance with the Client’s instruction. The works are part of our Client’s ‘WOW’ framework to improve the overall appeal of a vast number of the Company's Care Homes, nationally.
The Challenge
The Home remained open and in full occupancy, throughout the project, therefore, consideration was needed for all Residents, Staff and Visitors with the objective for their safety and to ensure zero disruption to the care services required on site occurred.
The Home is in a built-up residential area, in the village of Stamford Bridge, York, therefore where possible, deliveries were organised for quieter periods of the day to avoid delays to the programme and minimise disruption to the local community.
The Solution
Continuous communication between our Site Team and the Homes management and staff ensured cooperation and collaboration throughout the project. Weekly meetings were held to discuss working areas, access control and safety and a very close day to day rapport built between our teams to ensure the projects success.
Key Achievements
Due to our ongoing success in the framework, we were instructed to carry out further additional works to the assisted living apartments (3 Nr) in a separate location on the site during the same contract period.
Due to the positive impact these works had on the home, Pacy & Wheatley have been instructed to extend the renovation into the Dementia Ward and Assisted Living Apartments.
These works included the refurbishment of the en-suite shower rooms alongside new lighting, flooring and decoration throughout the living spaces.
