Project Description

Pacy and Wheatley completed a Healthcare Interior Refurbishment project in Grimsby; which carried out various upgrades to the category rating of an established mental health care facility and included: A new build extension to provide a maintenance workshop facility and storage space. Ground floor refurbishment to form two new seclusion rooms with anti-ligature WC & showers and intercom monitoring facilities. New severe duty rated doors and anti ligature lighting to all bedrooms. Form new reception entrance and air lock main entrance doors. Create a new, secure cedar clad covered walkway from the annexe building to the main hospital wing. Erect a secure 3m fence to the perimeter of the hospital garden to create a protected outside area Install anti-ligature rainwater goods to all accessible external areas.

The Challenge

Working in an occupied hospital with full consideration to the patients, staff and risks posed by same, was the single biggest consideration on this project. The hospital was home to patients who required specific care and attention and this could not be disrupted or hindered by the works carried out on site.

Completing the extensive amount of works on time to ensure the inspection dates could be met and satisfied. Working with our client on specification changes to ensure the end product was right, fit for purpose and value for money.

The Solution

Pacy & Wheatley Construction drew up a concise health and safety plan and programme of works, specifically catering for the challenges presented by this particular hospital and the nature of the patients. A strict programme of access into live areas, supervised by staff from the hospital. A regime of signing tools in and out at the start and end of each working day was successfully introduced and adhered to. The programme and completion dates were achieved by ensuring that sufficient teams of labour and management were allocated to the various areas of works across the hospital. Working closely with our client on the specification for the internal severe duty doors and anti-ligature fittings ensured that the end product was suitable, robust, within budget but most importantly safe for the patients.

Testimonials

‘I have worked closely with Pacy and Wheatley Construction over a number of years with different Health Care organisations, ranging from residential elderly to low secure mental health. In that time Pacy and Wheatley have delivered numerous successful projects ranging from intricate refurbishments of operational facilities with complex user groups, through to delivery of major developments on complex brown field sites. The projects have always been delivered to expectation. Customer service, understanding of our user groups and ability to deliver projects within complex operational constraints has cemented a long standing working relationship between the organisations I have worked with and Pacy and Wheatley. I would recommend them to any serious healthcare development organisation.’
