Dragon Boat Charity Challenge 2018 – RESULTS!
Posted on 9 July 2018
The Wheatley Wizards had some fantastic results over the weekend at the Dragon Boat Charity Challenge 2018! We were raising money for Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice, who support children with life-threatening conditions, and their family. It's a fantastic cause, as they offer all support and services 100% free.
Last year, we beat our donation target. We aimed to raise £500 for Bluebell and ended up raising over £750! This year, we wanted to beat last year's donations and set an initial goal of £1,000. After smashing through that target, we set a second goal of hitting £1,500. We're delighted to say we not only hit that, but went above and beyond! The total donations so far clock in at over £1,800 – Look out for a final donation update on our social media. We had a fantastic day, and luckily had some fantastic weather for the race!
When we took part in the race last year, we narrowly missed out on reaching the semi-finals, placing 12th. This year, the Wheatley Wizards sent two teams. Wheatley Wizards 1 managed an impressive 14th/23 place with a time of 61.41 seconds – but not enough to get them into the semi-final.
Luckily, Wheatley Wizards 2 brought the team forward. With a time of 57.9 seconds, Wheatley Wizards 2 managed to make it into the semi-finals, placing 5th/23! And after such a fantastic result, England won in the quarter finals in the football, cheered on by some of us here at Lakeside.
We had a fantastic time on Saturday, and were incredibly pleased with the results. We're so grateful to everybody who donated money towards Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice, and everybody who came down to support us on the day. There's still time to donate, so if you haven't already, please visit our MyDonate page. Next year we're aiming to raise even more money for Bluebell, and make the final of the race! We're looking forward to it already.
