Fifty Years Young!

Posted on 13 December 2017

Pacy & Wheatley Construction are celebrating 50 years in business! David Wheatley, founder of Pacy & Wheatley, still has a large part in the family-led business that he founded in 1968. To this day, he runs the business with his two sons, Anthony and Craig. Starting the business as a construction company, over the years two new divisions have been added to keep up with customer demand, splitting the business into three distinct services; Construction, Acoustics and, most recently, Interiors.
David's son Craig Wheatley joined the company at 18 years old, as an on-site joiner, and quickly became interested in all aspects of construction. He moved on to become a successful site manager and project manager for the company. In 2005, Craig received his Directorship, and sits proudly on the board of directors with his father and brother. Highly respected among Pacy & Wheatley's employees, Craig is known as a problem solver with a hands-on approach.

Anthony Wheatley began his career with Pacy & Wheatley at a very early age, working in the company's joinery workshop and labouring on site during the school holidays. It was this work that cemented his career path, setting him up for work in several aspects of the industry, and leading him to pursue an HND in Building Studies from Trent Polytechnic before moving back to Pacy & Wheatley in 1993 as a Contract Coordinator. He received his Directorship in 1992, and moved on to become the current Managing Director, in 2006.

The Wheatley family share common interests in sports like golfing, cycling and sailing, which have led Pacy & Wheatley to be very actively involved in the community. The company's support of Doncaster Wheelers cycling club, which David Wheatley is an active member of, and the Beaver Sailing Club, who provide training for junior sailors, stem from the family's love of the sports. They also take part in fundraisers, like the Dragon Boat Race in Doncaster, and the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, to raise money for Bluebell Wood Hospice; Pacy & Wheatley have raised almost £10,000 for the Hospice this year alone.

The company engaged with local communities in areas they have worked this year, arranging for students from local colleges to visit their construction sites in locations like Harrow, Huddersfield and Amersham, giving the students a presentation and a site tour led by the site team. On top of these tours, Pacy & Wheatley attended the Kirklees College Employability Week, giving insight into the construction industry and different roles within their construction company.

Commited to keeping up with modern design philosophies and modern building practices, David has been at the forefront of advancements within the construction industry over the last 50 years. Experts in healthcare construction, Pacy & Wheatley continue to challenge and improve construction standards to increase the quality of services they offer to clients, evidenced by their range of quality partnerships, and their constantly evolving environmental policy. This year, Pacy & Wheatley have achieved every goal of their environmental policy, reducing energy consumption, achieving zero spills and recycling over 95% of overall materials.

They've got great employee relations as well; under David's leadership, Pacy & Wheatley were one of the first construction companies to be accredited with the Investors in People standard, an internationally recognised accreditation that sets the standard for better people management worldwide.

Since the beginning, absolute client satisfaction has been at the heart of what the company sets out to achieve, with global brands such as Domino's Pizza, Carphone Warehouse, Costa Coffee and KFC, as well as many healthcare institutions across the UK trusting Pacy & Wheatley with their construction needs, offering them repeat business. It's been a fantastic 50 years for Pacy & Wheatley, working with high profile clients across the UK and internationally.
