New Build Care Home in Ely, Cambridgeshire

The Pacy & Wheatley Construction team were excited to have been appointed a new build Care Home in Ely, Cambridgeshire for our repeat client, Minster Care Group. Now, construction is almost complete on the project! We were appointed to the project after successful completion of a beautiful looking new build construction of a 47-bed care home at Duncote Hall, Northamptonshire. The main challenge for the project in Cambridgeshire involves the existing care home on the site, which has remained open and operational for the entirety of the project.
The project consists of the construction of a new, 21-bed care home for Minster Care Group, who help elderly people live a healthy, active and fulfilling life, regardless of their age or physical capability. The works also include the demolition of some unused buildings as well as a summer house along one side of the land. We are also completing some external alterations, including creating a new car park and fencing around the perimeter of the care home.
The new care home is attached to the existing, on-site care home by a link walkway. The existing care home remained operational throughout all our works, so minimising any disruption caused to the current service is essential for successful completion of the project.
The entrance to the site, and the driveway, are both very narrow, leaving little room for manoeuvring. This put some restrictions on the delivery vehicles which could be used for the project. Because of this, and the existing on-site care home remaining open, we adopted a "just in time" approach to site deliveries, ensuring minimal disruption to the ongoing services.
The local primary school is also located adjacent to our site. The safety and welfare of the children is a top priority for our team, and has continued to be at the forefront of all our work. On top of this, tree protection and the protection of historic air raid shelters located on the site was a necessity, and has added to the tightness of the site as well as the buildability.
