In a vibrant display of community spirit and teamwork, employees of Pacy & Wheatley in Doncaster made a big splash at the annual Charity Dragon Boat Race held on Saturday, 13th July. The team’s efforts raised over £4,000 for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, highlighting their dedication to giving back to the community and their prowess in the water.
The flagship event took place at Manvers Lake, where teams from various local businesses competed in a series of thrilling boat races. Among the competitors, Pacy & Wheatley, a family-owned and run construction business, distinguished themselves through their impressive rowing skills—securing a place in the Semi-Finals—and their remarkable fundraising and team spirit. Their outstanding performance earned them two prestigious titles: ‘Most Funds Raised’ and ‘Best Dressed Team’.
The journey to these accolades was paved with numerous fun-filled activities organised by Pacy & Wheatley employees and their families. One particularly popular event was the wet sponge throwing game, which delighted the children and alone raised nearly £300. This mix of playful competition and earnest fundraising allowed everyone to bond, making the day a memorable one for all involved.
Anthony Wheatley, Managing Director, said, “Well done to everyone for what can only be described as Excellent organisation, prize-winning outfits, innovative team-building activities, most funds raised by a team award, and first-class catering for our team, provided by Pitman’s Pantry and Highgate Club, by Carl Drury and his team – even goody bags for the kids. What an excellent day, and I encourage us to enter again next year and invite everyone to get involved in what is a great team day for a great local charity”
