Structural works for South Elmsall College

Pacy & Wheatley are delighted to present our recent education construction work at Minsthorpe College in South Elmsall, West Yorkshire. We were appointed by the college to carry out extensive structural works, including removing asbestos, renewing the entire building facades and elevational elements (such as wall cladding, windows and erecting a new roof)and complete internal alterations and refurbishments.

Minsthorpe College successfully bid for £2m from the government's Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) to upgrade its old Consortium of Local Authorities Special Programme (CLASP) buildings. The CLASP system was a scheme developed throughout the 1950s-1980s to provide an economical and quick solution to providing more room in schools and offices. Unfortunately, CLASP buildings were filled with asbestos for heat insulation and often flooded due to their flat roofs. Thanks to the government's funding, Minsthorpe College were able to renovate the old buildings to the same specification as the front of the college.

The main challenge posed was working in a live education environment in a built-up residential area, with pupils and staff working near the construction area. Safety of the locals, staff and students was of up most priority and our objective of zero disruption to the education service was up held. To cause least disruption, our deliveries were carefully scheduled at specific times of the day.

The Pacy & Wheatley team conducted design portions of work during the early stages of the project, ensuring complete cooperation and coordination with all tradespeople and sub-contractors. We attended regular planning meetings with the school estate team to ensure we worked around various examinations and Ofsted visits. Our experience in careful site management ensured minimum disruption and disturbance to the entire college.
