World Mental Health Day: Raising Awareness in the Construction Industry

Posted on 24 October 2019

On Thursday 10 October, Pacy & Wheatley Construction supported World Mental Health Day by actively taking the time to raise awareness of mental ill-health in our workplace. With our team working in various locations for different projects, each site took the time to participate in a 'Toolbox Talk' with a focus on raising awareness of mental health in the construction industry.

A large part of our company philosophy is ensuring the health and wellbeing of our staff is maintained at a good level, so we've joined Mates in Mind: a charity dedicated to raising awareness and addressing the stigma of poor mental health in our industry. The charity's biggest challenge is reaching SMEs, so we're doing our bit to help promote a culture free from discrimination against mental health illnesses.

With the highest rates of suicide in the construction sector than any other industry, it's the responsibility of companies throughout the UK to make construction one of the most mentally healthy places to work. That's why on World Mental Health Day 2019 our team put their tools down and gathered for our 'Toolbox Talk', including an eleven-page hardcopy, useful infographics and posters, and biscuits (of course!)

We're proud to be involved in such an important cause and if our toolbox talk has helped at least one person, it's been more than worth it. We offer a range of services from healthcare to educational construction work.
