Project Description
Pacy and Wheatley Construction took on a education construction job at South Elmsall. Further Phase of works awarded – Asbestos Removal and Internal refurbishment & Fire Safety Works across 3 floors for Minsthorpe Academy Trust. We were delighted to have been awarded the next phase of Life Safety and Compliance Works at the Academy, continuing our close working relationship with Minsthorpe Academy Trust. The project involved service isolations and relocations, the removal of asbestos, and internal alterations and refurbishment, complete with full finishes. All to be carried out in a tight timescale and strict ‘live’ working environment. The result for the college would be further renewed and compliant interiors, complementing areas previously completed to a high standard, with a modern and aesthetically pleasing environment to reflect the college’s ambitions and continued improvement.
The Challenge
The college re-opened after the initial Covid 19 Pandemic lockdown and remained open throughout the project; therefore, consideration and safety was needed to ensure all Pupils, Staff and Visitors safety - with the objective of zero disruption to the education service being provided.
The location of the college is in a built-up residential area. Deliveries would need to be organised for specific times of the day, to allocated areas on the site, to avoid congestion and minimise the effect to the local communities and the college operational day.
The Solution & Key Achievements
Covid-19 Secure working areas and practices were implemented via a site specific Covid-19 risk and method statement in full compliance with the latest CLC guidelines, and in close consultation with the Academy and its day to day activities.
Careful selection of sub-contractors to ensure the highest standards were achieved • Excellent site management and coordination of trades • Close liaison with the clients and our design team ensured we achieved the right design solutions first time • Use of innovative products to overcome on site design challenges • Weekly meetings to review school logistics for pupil’s routes and access to ensure highest levels of safety were maintained
