Project Description
Pacy & Wheatley have completed a refurbishment on a college in South Elmsall, West Yorkshire. The project involves structural changes, the removal of asbestos, the renewal of all façade and elevational treatments (wall cladding, windows, conversion from flat too pitched cladded roofs) and internal alterations and refurbishment. All to be carried out in a tight timescale and strict ‘live’ working environment. The end result for the college will be a renewed cladded façade and internal refurbishments to update the visual exterior and spatial educational rooms internally, with a modern and aesthetically pleasing environment to reflect the college’s ambitions and continued improvement.
The Challenge
The college will remain open throughout the project; therefore, consideration and safety will need to be ensured to all Pupils, Staff and Visitors - with the objective of zero disruption to the education service being provided.
The location of the college is in a built-up residential area. Deliveries will be organised for specific times of the day, to allocated areas on the site, to avoid congestion and minimise the effect to the local communities and college operational day.
The Solution
The design portions of works were conducted during the early stages of the project, to ensure full coordination of all aspects and trades works working closely with our sub-contractors and the employer design team members.
Regular weekly planning meetings were held between the School Estate Team and Pacy and Wheatley’s Site Team, in order to ensure we worked around the school’s needs including the examinations and Ofsted visits.
The programme and progress were jointly manipulated to meet the operational day to day needs of the educational facility, without affecting our own regular progress of works.
Good Site Management ensured minimum disturbance to residents and the school due to our works.
